HOURA! Au professeur de l'Université d'Etat du Michigan

L'histoire commence à l'Université d'Etat du Michigan, avec un professeur d'ingénierie mécanique du nom d'Indrek Wichman. Wichman avait répondu à un email de protestation de l'Association des Etudiants Musulmans contre les dessins Danois représentant Mohamed comme un terroriste, les accusant de "semer la haine". Voici la réponse du Pr Wichman.

Chère Association Musulmane,

En tant que professeur d'ingénierie mécanique à l'Université d'Etat du Michigan, je proteste contre votre protestation. Je n'aime pas ces dessins comme beaucoup d'autres choses terre à terre, telles que les décapitations de civils, les lâches attaques contre des bâtiments publics, les attentats-suicide, le meurtre de prêtres catholiques, et le tout dernier en Turquie, l'incendie d'églises chrétiennes, la persécution constante des Coptes en Egypte, l'imposition de la sharia' aux non Musulmans, le viol de femmes et de jeunes filles Scandinaves, appelées P. dans votre culture, le meurtre de cinéastes en Hollande et les émeutes et le pillage dans les banlieues françaises.

C'est tout cela qui m'offense – moi qui suis un universitaire et un homme calme – et tout cela offense beaucoup de mes collègues. Je donne un conseil à tous ces Musulmans insatisfaits, agressifs, brutaux, non civilisés, faisant encore le commerce d'esclaves de se regarder en face avant d'émettre des protestations infantiles. Si vous n'appréciez pas les valeurs de l'Occident – lisez le 1^er amendement de notre constitution –vous êtes libres de quitter notre pays.

Je prie D. pour que la plupart d'entre vous fassent ce choix. Rentrez chez vous, dans vos ancestrales demeures et relevez les manches pour les construire, au lieu d'importer ici "vos troubles".

L'Association n'a pas du tout aimé cette réponse. Elle a exigé de l'Université un blâme contre le professeur, l'institution d'un cours sur la diversité des cultures, un séminaire sur la haine et la discrimination pour les nouveaux étudiants…de plus CAIR, le Conseil des Relations Américano-Islamiques a appuyé cette demande. Estimant que l'échange de courrier est privé, l'Université a déclaré soutenir le professeur et ne pas vouloir condamner ses propos. 31/03/08

Hooray for A Michigan State Professor!

The story begins at Michigan State University with a mechanical engineering professor named Indrek Wichman.  Wichman sent an e-mail to the Muslim Student's Association. The e-mail was in response to the students' protest of the Danish cartoons that portrayed the Prophet Muhammad as a terrorist.

The group had complained the cartoons were "hate speech."

Enter Professor Wichman. In his e-mail, he said the following:

Dear Moslem Association,

As a professor of Mechanical Engineering here at MSU, I intend to protest your protest.

I am offended not by cartoons, but by more mundane things like beheadings of civilians, cowardly attacks on public buildings, suicide murders,  murders of Catholic priests (the latest in Turkey ), burnings of Christian churches, the continued persecution of Coptic Christians in Egypt, the imposition of Sharia law on non-Muslims, the rapes of Scandinavian girls and women (called "whores" in your culture), the murder of film directors in Holland and the rioting and looting in Paris France .

This is what offends me - a soft-spoken person and academic, and many, many of my colleagues. I counsel you dissatisfied, aggressive, brutal, and uncivilized slave-trading Moslems to be very aware of this as you proceed with your infantile "protests." If you do not like the values of the West - see the 1st Amendment - you are free to leave.

I hope for God's sake that most of you choose that option.  Please return to your ancestral homelands and build them up yourselves instead of troubling Americans.

As you can imagine, the Muslim group at the university didn't like this too well. They're demanding that Wichman be reprimanded and the university impose mandatory diversity training for faculty and mandate a seminar on hate and discrimination for all freshmen.  

Now the local chapter of CAIR has jumped into the fray.  CAIR, the Council on American-Islamic Relations, apparently does not believe that the good professor had the right to express his opinion.

For its part, the university is standing its ground in support of Professor Wichman, saying the e-mail was private, and they do not intend to publicly condemn his remarks.
